👋🏻 Hello! My name is Andrew Kim!
About me
I'm Andrew Kim, a UX/UI Designer with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Product Design from the College for Creative Studies. My foundation in physical product design has given me a deep understanding of how people interact with tools and systems, which naturally led me to the world of digital design. I am passionate about creating solutions that not only address real user problems but also make those experiences feel effortless. I believe that great design should be intuitive, supporting business goals while making the user experience feel seamless and almost invisible. This is the standard I strive for in every design I create.
When approaching a task, my first priority is always to understand the context. I focus on who I am designing for, their goals, and the barriers they may face. From there, I organize my approach using the STAR method: assessing the situation, defining the task, deciding on the appropriate actions, and measuring the results. This method keeps me organized and ensures that every design decision is purposeful, especially when navigating complex flows, tight deadlines, or multiple edge cases. One example of this approach was when I worked on improving an onboarding process that had high user drop-off rates. By analyzing analytics, user feedback, and watching user session recordings, I identified key friction points. I then redesigned the flow by simplifying choices, restructuring the layout, and making sure the most essential information was presented up front. I work iteratively, welcoming feedback at every stage, because I see it as an essential part of the design process, not a barrier. I believe the best designs come from listening, adapting, and always keeping the user at the center of the process. The result was a noticeable increase in user completion rates and engagement. This was not just about altering the visual elements; it was about removing obstacles and guiding users toward a smoother, more confident journey.
For me, staying close to the user is essential. I don't rely on assumptions; I believe in testing early, gathering real feedback, and analyzing usage data to guide design decisions. This data-driven approach allows me to prioritize changes that will have the most significant impact and ensures that the designs I implement truly resonate with users. It’s this commitment to continuous improvement that drives me to refine designs until they meet both user needs and business objectives. At the core of my design philosophy is the desire to create experiences that feel intuitive and help users accomplish their goals with ease. To me, the real value of design is in its ability to make users’ lives better, and when that translates into tangible business growth, it reinforces that I’ve made a meaningful impact.
